STUDY IN PURPLE
1966
Silkscreen on M.G.Litho paper.
Description: First major use of transparent layers put on progressively to build up to a heavy toned colour. In this case, the first screen was an opaque magenta and white. Subsequent screens consisted of transparent blue, magenta and green.
Printed: By the artist in his studio workshop, November 1966. Printed in edition of 12, in 5 colours (see above for the order etc. AW).

Notes: This was the first use made of transparent overprinting to any marked degree. In Paris in 1967 I returned to this print and the larger Orbital I as a source of inspiration for larger paintings using acrylic pigments on canvas.
